there are pros and cons to the collar approach.

I haven't had a dog that required that approach.

When you say she doesn't listen when you take off the check chord, what does she do? and what is your response?

If she's not doing what you expect, what kind of correction do you give her?

well when she is off the check cord she will rodm i wait till she finishes and then repeat the command and start over no stimulation positive or negative till she follows the command

switched tonight to a 4 ft cord instead of 30 ft she worked fine going to use that for a week or two then switch to 1 ft lead

collar is to enforce here and whoa for safety and flushing i hate collars but want her to hunt and be safe

hoping that the shorter leads will work i was thinking tonight that maybe im rushing things and should slow down

this dog has been the best stress relief i have ever had

cool... sounds like you're enjoying it... just stay after her, be consistent....that's the toughest part.

I know Chris at 6R uses the ecollar and they make a difference.
like your dog on the cord, just wearing he ecollar will most of the time have the same affect and make them listen.

if e-collar has a beeper also you can use it and hit the beep before you hit the nick. that will give them a reminder before the nick hits. If no beep use a whistle just before the nick

then start low on the power and raise it to the point that it gets the dogs attention. most will respond to a low power stimulation and not need a real shock.

The e-collar is also a safety feature, ALOT of dogs will get a urge to chase after something even if its just a stray bird that you missed, and that bird might fly across a road, or into a non-hunting area.
with the e-collar you can keep the dog out of a road, or out of something that might hurt them when the dog has turned you off.

I have seen Duke do this as well. He does come back but when he is ready sometimes.

Duke? not my perfect retriever %^&

if the's locked on... it takes him a while to give up! that's for sure, like the last time we were out Loehner's, one sailed off out of site... but Duke came back with it! /\/\/\
